¡Bienvenidos al mundo hispano!
In this class, you can expect them to,
- Gain proficiency in Listening, Speaking Reading and Writing in Spanish,
- Gain geographic and cultural awareness of the Spanish speaking world,
- Interact in Spanish with their peers in fun and culturally appropriate ways.
At the beginning of the first year the student will be able to converse in the present tense on a limited number of topics. They will be able to discuss actions that will occur in the future.
By the end of the second year, students will be able to have conversations using past tenses and be able to converse on a greater variety of topics.
In the third year, students will learn more complex grammatical structures, as well as, expand their vocabulary.
By the end of the fourth year, students will refine their knowledge of Spanish and approach a low level of fluency.
In the fifth year students will aim at the AP Spanish Language and Culture Curriculum Framework Exam, which will give them a sizable amount of University credit and demonstrate basic fluency.
A word on the following:
- Assessment. 50% Tests (include Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and Culture) 30% Quizzes, 10% Homework (Homework is graded on completion not for accuracy. Papers are graded for accuracy). 10% Writing activities, Participation and projects in class.
- Homework/Class work. The homework is checked every class day. I expect the homework to be completed and ready to check at the beginning of the next class. Late homework will incur a 40% reduction. (except for excused absences)
- Stewards of texts: The textbooks are loaned from the school. Students are expected to take good care of them. Students can keep the work book and write in them. They are not expected to return them at the end of the course. The textbook used are AP Spanish preparing for the Language and culture Examination, Abriendo paso lecturas, Abriendo paso gramática.
- Help outside of class. I plan to give students about 15-20 minutes a day to work on activities, projects or homework. If they need further help, they may see me at lunch, or email me at my school address, rwhitehead@kis.or.kr and my Web-site is http://sra.mrwhitehead.com
- If students stay on-track with homework, they won’t need to cram when test-time comes. I expect them to be well disciplined in time management.
I’m looking forward to our year together. Thanks for your part in making this year one of the most fulfilling of their high school years!
